***FIFFLA 2010 UPDATE**
We are on our second year of doing this film festival slated for the dates of September 23rd-26th at the Hayworth Theatre in LA. Our goal is to bridge Philippine Cinema, Filipino-American filmmakers, actors, writers, and directors directly with Hollywood. We feel it’s a great time to show our talent and culture on a broader stage through film. We have a great opportunity at the moment with location and the diverse films we are receiving from Filipino filmmakers from the Philippines and US. We hope to showcase these films within our own community and specifically to the American general public to raise awareness for the Filipino films and the Filipino talent behind it.
Unfortunately, this year we are having problems raising funds. We are less than six weeks away from FIFFLA 2010 and at this point still not have raised the amount of money needed to run this film festival properly. We have already cut the budget to its minimum to run the film festival and to lower costs we’re also thinking of cutting down a day and minimizing show times to make this festival work. We are a non-profit organization and every single one of our staff are on voluntary basis and do not get paid for any services rendered. We are all working on this project solely out of our own time because of passion and pride for our heritage and culture.
We are looking at the month of August 2010 to simply and quickly raise money needed to make FIFFLA 2010 happen. Without these funds, I fear that it is impossible to run FIFFLA respectfully and gracefully in a way that it should done with the films that represents our country, culture, people and heritage to its fullest.
We as an organization is asking for help to raise the money needed for this year’s FIFFLA. We are asking for support in all aspects from financial to community involvement and presences. We understand how powerful a film festival can be especially when carrying the word “Filipino” in our name and bearing the Filipino flag as our logo. The reach of FIFFLA goes beyond our own Filipino community and has a profound effect to not just our Filipino films and talent but as a people as well.
We are looking forward to hearing from anyone that may have any idea on how we can achieve this most important of task in running FIFFLA. If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to write to me for any other information regarding the film festival at jeff@fiffla.org.
Thank you for your time. Maraming maraming salamat po.
